How payments work
Where a fan’s money goes, from the moment they pay to the day it reaches your bank.
A fan pays
Fans pay with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or, in the US, Cash App Pay. Where the law requires sales tax or VAT, it’s added on top of your price and shown before they pay, never taken out of your earnings. Card details go straight to Stripe; ByUs never sees them.
Your share lands in your own Stripe account
The moment a fan pays, your share goes into your own Stripe balance, not a ByUs account. You keep 87% to start and up to 91% as your sales grow. Founding creators keep 90% for good. Gifts and tips sent during a live are separate: you keep 70%, because live video costs ByUs by the minute.
The ByUs fee covers the costs
Card processing, international cards and currency conversion all come out of ByUs’s share, never yours. There’s no monthly fee, setup fee or listing fee. ByUs only earns when you do.
Payouts go to your bank
If you sold $100 or more last month, your balance goes to your bank every Monday. Otherwise it goes on the 1st of the month, once it’s at least $25, and anything waiting 3 months goes out anyway. Payouts are grouped like this because each one has a cost, which ByUs pays.
Example
A fan joins your $10 a month membership. Starting out, you keep $8.70 of it (87%), with card processing already paid. As a founding creator you’d keep $9. Any tax is added on top for the fan, so it never changes your share.
Your first payout
Before your first payout, ByUs does a quick one-time review of your page to make sure you’re a real person. Stripe may also hold a brand-new account’s first payout for about 7 to 14 days while it verifies you. Fans can pay you before either of those is done; the money just waits in your Stripe balance.
Payments that are only charged when something happens
Paid messages: the fan’s card is held, and it’s only charged if you reply within 6 days. No reply, no charge.
1:1 video calls: the card is held when they book and charged after the call. If you don’t show up, it’s released and nobody pays.
Switching links: fans coming from another platform pay $0 today, and their first charge waits until the date you pick, so nobody pays twice.
Refunds and disputes
The ByUs team decides every refund, not the creator. ByUs refunds when a fan was charged twice, didn’t authorize the payment, hit a problem on ByUs, or didn’t get what they paid for. When a refund goes through, your share of that payment comes back out of your balance.
If a fan asks their bank to reverse a payment, that’s a dispute. ByUs emails you and responds with the records we have. The card network charges a $15 fee for every dispute, and a second $15 if it’s fought and lost; these come out of your earnings, and any fee that comes back is returned to you. Win the dispute and you keep the payment.
Taxes
Stripe, not ByUs, sends your 1099-K each year once you cross the IRS reporting threshold. Your dashboard also has yearly and all-time downloads of your earnings for your records. This isn’t tax advice, so check with a tax professional about what you owe.
Founding creators: the first 50 US creators to reach $250 in sales in a month keep 90% for good.
