Lives in real time, gift goals and 8-hour streams
Fans now see you about half a second after it happens, gifts and chat land instantly, and lives can run up to 8 hours. Here’s everything that changed for lives this week.
A live is a conversation, and conversations don’t work with a delay. This week was about making ByUs lives feel like you’re in the same room as your fans, and giving you room to stay as long as you want.
About half a second behind
When you go live from your phone or computer, fans now see and hear you about half a second after it happens. Answer a question while it’s still on their mind, and thank someone for a gift while their name is still on screen. If a fan’s connection is weak, their live keeps playing the usual way and switches back on its own.
Chat, hearts, cheers, gifts and showdown points also land on everyone’s screen about a second after they’re sent, even when lots of people are watching.
Gifts on every live, and a goal to fill
- Fans can send gifts on any live, not just showdowns: 30 of them, from a 1¢ Glow stick to $500.
- Set a gift goal before you go live, like “$50 tonight”, or add one during the live. Everyone sees the bar fill, and it turns gold when you hit it.
- Fans open a gift tab once and every gift after that is one tap. When the live ends they’re charged only for what they sent.
- You keep 70% of every live gift and tip, card processing included.
Stay as long as you want
Each live can now run up to 8 hours. Live time comes from your live credit: $40 free every month, plus 15¢ for every $1 your fans send in live gifts and tips, so the more your fans enjoy a live, the longer you can keep going. Your Go live screen shows how much credit you have and about how long it lasts.
To keep things fair for everyone, fans who haven’t tapped anything for 20 minutes get a gentle “Still watching?” and their video pauses until they’re back.

When your live ends, you see how long you were on, how long fans watched, the most people watching at once, gifts and tips, what you earn, new members, and one tip for next time. And as of today, you can post the whole thing as a replay for members who missed it.
No app store needed
All of this works in your phone’s browser, or from the ByUs app on your home screen: open byusapp.com/app and it takes about 10 seconds. It opens full screen, which is perfect for lives, and fans pay on the web with no app-store fees.
