Why ByUs isn’t in the app stores
App stores take a cut of what fans pay inside apps. Here’s why ByUs runs on the web instead, and how you still get an app on your phone.
People ask me why there’s no ByUs app in the app stores. It was a choice, and it comes down to your money.
App stores take a cut
When fans pay for something inside an app store app, the store usually takes a share of the payment, often 10% to 30% depending on the store and the plan. Platforms that live in the app stores either pass that cost on to fans with higher prices or take it out of what creators earn.
ByUs runs on the web
Fans pay ByUs directly on a secure checkout page, so there’s no app store cut. You keep 87–91% of memberships, tips and sales, with card processing included, and a membership costs the same on every phone and computer.
You still get an app
Open byusapp.com on your phone and tap Get the app at the bottom of the page. On Android it installs in one tap; on iPhone, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen. ByUs then opens from your home screen in its own window, like any other app.
- No app store cut on what your fans pay.
- No waiting for app store approval: new features reach you the day we ship them.
- Works on any phone, tablet or computer with a browser.
If the app stores ever change in a way that’s better for creators, I’ll look again. Until then, staying on the web is how we keep more money in your pocket.
