- Post two or three members-only posts, so new members never land on an empty page.

That’s normal, and it’s not a sign it isn’t working. Keep mentioning it, keep posting for members, and repeat the days that worked best for you.
Do I need a big following?
No. This plan starts with the people who already know and like your work. Even a small, friendly audience is enough for your first members.
Does this only work on ByUs?
