Step 7 of 12 · Grow
Turn followers into paying members
Free followers already like your work. Here’s how to give them a reason to join.

A follower is a “not yet,” not a “no”
Someone who follows you for free has already said they like what you do. Most just need a clear reason, a nudge, and the right moment. Your dashboard shows new followers and new paid members side by side each month, so you can see how many make the jump.
Give them a taste of the members-only side
- Post a public preview of something members get: the first minute of a video, a sketch before the finished piece, a paragraph of the full article.
- End public posts with one plain sentence about what members got this week.
- Sell a single members-only post now and then. Someone who buys one is far more likely to join later.
Ask, personally
You can send a private message to any of your followers from Messages. A short, personal note works better than a sales pitch: thank them for following, say what members are getting this month, and leave it there. Don’t message the same person again and again.
Make saying yes easy
- A free trial lowers the risk for people who aren’t sure yet.
- The yearly price gives committed fans a better deal.
- Gift memberships let followers give 3, 6 or 12 months to a friend, which brings in another fan.
- Limited spots on a tier give people a real reason to join now instead of later.
Pick your moments
People join after something lands: a great post, a live stream, a release, a milestone. Mention membership right then, while they’re paying attention, rather than in every single post.
