Step 5 of 12 · Grow

Turn first-time visitors into members

What someone landing on your page for the first time needs to see before they join.

5 min read

A visitor has three questions

Who is this? What do I get? Is it worth it to me? If your page answers all three in the first screen, people keep reading. If it doesn’t, they leave, usually without saying why.

Answer them at the top

  • Who: a clear photo and a cover image that shows your work, not a stock photo.
  • What: a bio that says what members get and how often, in one or two sentences.
  • Worth it: a pinned “Start here” post. A short video of you saying hello and what’s coming works well. Pin it from the Posts list on your dashboard.

Show what’s behind the button

Visitors can see that members-only posts exist, even when they can’t open them. A page with a steady run of members-only posts says “there’s real stuff here.” A page with one locked post says “maybe later.” Before you share your link widely, have a few members-only posts up, plus a couple of public ones that show your style.

You can also put a price on a single members-only post, so someone can buy just that one. For some people it’s the first step before joining.

Make the tiers easy to choose

  • Make each tier’s benefits specific: “a new song demo every week” beats “exclusive content.”
  • Keep the yearly price on. Your page shows it first, with the savings on the button.
  • A free trial (7, 14 or 30 days) helps people who want to look around first.
  • If one tier is the one you want most people on, say so in its description.

Remove the small bumps

Visitors who aren’t signed in can still tap Like, Follow or Join. ByUs asks them to make an account and then finishes what they tapped, so nobody loses their place. Fans can pay with a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Your job is just to make the page worth joining.
